Five Points South Fountain

Birmingham, Alabama

3-5 pm

The Rally was a Success.  We obtained coverage from 3 local TV networks in addition to Birmingham’s major newspaper.

We need everyone’s help in contacting their Congress person/State Legislator. Please ask them to write and enact stricter laws that punish assailants when a death is due to a punch.

Justice for Kapali Rally LINK

PUNCHES CAN KILL

Kapali's assailant should be held criminally responsible for Kapali's death.

We need new criminal laws that are specific for deaths due to punches so that assailants are held accountable and do not walk away free.

We hope to follow in the foot steps of Australia who recently passed a law "Unlawful Assault Causing Death" which states that if a person kills someone with a punch, then they can face 10 years in prison.

Real life is not like the movies, people don't just get right back up after a punch.  Punching someone in the face can cause severe damage including mental and physical disability, coma, and death.

This tragedy could have happened to anyone's brother, father, son, and we don't think anyone would want to see their loved one's assailant walk away free without any sort of punishment. No family should ever have to go through this type of legal nightmare.

We want to prevent this tragedy from ever happening again.

The legal system must recognize fists as weapons and enforce punishment when some one is killed with a punch.

We believe we can prevent this tragedy from happening again if people realize that if they punch someone they could kill them, and if they kill them that they could be held criminally responsible and face jail time for that person's death.

Losing Kapali has been devastating to all of us but to see his case be so easily dismissed by the legal system has been unbearable.

We chose 5 points because Kapali was a valued member of the Birmingham community and knew many people in this city.  Birmingham is also a major city in Alabama with universities and we want to target our message to young people that Punches Can Kill.
